Penn Township commissioners awarded bids for upcoming road projects at a meeting July 20.
A stormwater project for the Harrison Park neighborhood, primarily on Dolly Avenue, will be completed by contractor Curry & Kepple at a base bid amount of about $1.59 million.
The township secured a $2.2 million loan from PennVEST — the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority — to cover the installation of a more extensive drainage system and replacement of the culvert at the bottom of Dolly Avenue.
The project also will assess the state land near Bushy Run, which is a source for some of the Harrison Park stormwater.
Curry & Kepple broke ground May 23 on a separate flood mitigation project on Hyland Road.
The township hopes by Nov. 1 to complete this project, which includes replacement of the Country Farm Lane-Sunnyfield Court and Sunnyfield Court-Waugaman Road culverts.
After that work is finished, crews will work on Chris Drive, Harrison Park and Dolly Avenue.
Commissioner Chuck Konkus commended the residents of Harrison Park for their cooperation with the township.
“You’ve been very patient for many decades, and I’m very excited to see a solution,” Konkus said.

The township awarded a bid for a shot-and-chip project to Russell Standard at a base amount of $136,432.90.
This project will wrap up by Sep. 1, according to township Secretary/Manager Mary Perez.
Shot-and-chip is a treatment method used to extend the life of a road between pavings. The process involves applying a layer of tar to the road surface, followed by a layer of fine gravel.
The township’s 2022 line painting project was approved for advertising. Perez said bids will be opened in August, and the township will award a contract at its Aug. 17 meeting.
