School Road in Murrysville remained closed late Thursday morning after a car sheared a utility pole just south of Nob Hill Road.

Murrysville police said the call came in about 9:30 a.m. and noted the male driver was not hurt when his car left the road, struck a utility pole and spun around.

Mary Shields of Murrysville, who lives nearby and called 911, said the driver is lucky his car stopped when it did.

“He hit the pole hard,” Shields said. “He’s lucky he also hit the (nearby) pine tree and didn’t go all the way down. The hill drops off pretty steep there.”

Murrysville police said they have responded to accidents in that area in the past. They said the driver suffered minor injuries.

While the crash damaged the utility pole, it did not appear to have damaged the overhead wires.

Police officials said School Road remained closed as of 11 a.m., as first responders waited for power crews to arrive and address the broken pole.
