If you’re a Greensburg Salem School District teacher, your students can’t wait to meet you.
“Meeting my new teacher” was far and away the top response to the question “What are you most excited about for this year?” among students attending the district’s back-to-school celebration Friday night at Offutt Field in Greensburg.
“I’m excited to meet brand new friends, and my teacher,” said Addison Pinskey, 6, who is heading into first grade this year.
Her friend Penny Kaufman, 7, said the same thing, but added that she’s looking forward to music class, too.
“I want to play the flute when I grow up,” Penny said.
Parents and students had a chance to socialize, grab some food or dessert from several food trucks, meet with community organizations and local community college staff. They even got to try their hand at dropping those favorite teachers into a dunking booth.
Aniyah Hall and Paityn Massey are both headed into seventh grade this year, and they’d done a little scouting work on the academic side of things.
“I think the toughest class is going to be math,” Hall said.
“I heard from other seventh graders and from videos on TikTok that the social studies tests in seventh grade are a lot harder,” Massey said.
And what are they most excited for?
“Meeting our new teachers,” Hall said.
