The Lamp Theatre in Irwin will be the site of an alternative rock band concert Friday night to help raise money to pay for tasers and the associated software for Irwin Borough police.

“We want to do something to help raise money. We want to do what we can to help keep them safe,” said Andi Cartwright, marketing director for The Lamp Theatre at 222 Main St.

The Irwin police provide security for the performances at The Lamp, Cartwright noted. The concert will help promote the safety and security of downtown Irwin and its officers.

Tickets for the “Rock for Cops” concert by the band U Phonik, will be $20, Cartwright said. The band will play a mix of alternative rock covers and originals.

The ticket sales, the concession tips and possibly money from a 50/50 raffle ticket, will go toward the Irwin Police Department.

The tasers and the accompany software necessary that automatically activities the body-worn cameras of the officers may cost between $12,000 and $14,000, said Chief Dan Wensel.

The money raised from the benefit concert would be placed with the Irwin Police Officers’ Relief Association, which is the collective bargaining agent for the police officers, Wensel said.
