Humane officers from North Huntingdon animal shelter All But Furgotten are investigating the suspicious death of a pit bull terrier whose body was found Aug. 25 in West Newton.

Tone, a 2-year-old white-and-gray pit bull, was reported missing from West Newton on Aug. 22.

“All But Furgotten got involved because we have search-and-rescue officials,” said board member Hannah Novak. “They were helping to try and track Tone, and then on Aug. 25 he was found deceased at a neighbor’s property.”

Novak said a local veterinarian performed a necropsy which indicated that Tone was not killed by another animal.

Novak declined to provide details of the dog’s injuries.

“What I can say is that they weren’t consistent with an attack by another animal,” she said. “It was definitely a brutal, torturous death.”

Anyone with information is asked to call All But Furgotten at 724-382-7178.
