A Hempfield woman is charged with aggravated assault and child endangerment after state police say she stabbed a man during an argument on Christmas.
Mia Lou Riser, 26, was involved in a dispute with a man at a Hempfield apartment around 6 p.m. Thursday, according to a criminal affidavit.
The 28-year-old man told police that during the confrontation, Riser tried to jump out of an elevated window while holding their 10-month-old child in one arm and a steak knife in the other hand, according to court papers.
The man told troopers he talked Riser back into the apartment and moved the child to safety. Riser fled the West Hills Drive home on foot, clothed only in underwear, state police said.
The man followed Riser in his vehicle and found her walking down West Hills Drive, where he stopped and tried to calm Riser down, state police said. A struggle ensued and the man was stabbed with a roughly 6-inch-long steak knife.
The man got the knife from Riser, threw it into the woods and restrained her until state police troopers arrived moments later.
According to the police report, the man had a 1-inch stab wound to his stomach. He was taken to Forbes Hospital for treatment of the wound, which state police described as minor.
Riser is charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and two counts each of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
She is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison after failing to post $100,000 bail. Court records do not list an attorney for Riser.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 6 before District Judge Mark Mansour.
