A Hempfield man turned himself in Thursday morning on charges related to nine guns seized after a three-hour police standoff at his home last week.

State police said they were attempting to serve warrants at 10:40 a.m. April 17 for Timothy M. Pugh, 46, who lives in the village of Darragh. Two dogs prevented troopers from knocking on the door at Pugh’s Darragh Herminie Road home, so they reportedly used sirens and the public address system in an effort to get him to come outside, according to court papers.

While police secured the perimeter, they reported spotting guns and drugs in a detached garage through an open door.

Pugh didn’t come outside until 1:30 p.m., police said.

He told authorities that he hid in the attic because he didn’t want to go back to jail on the warrants, which were related to receiving stolen property and domestic relations cases. Police seized nine guns and drugs and charged him with weapons violations, flight to avoid apprehension and related offenses, according to court papers.

Pugh is not permitted to have firearms because of past felony convictions, police said. He is free on $50,000 unsecured bail and did not have an attorney listed in online court records. A preliminary hearing is set for May 7.
