A Greensburg woman is accused of assaulting a man and stealing his red nose pit bull during an altercation in the city last week.

Cynthia Marie Finch, 29, is facing several charges after witnesses told police she jumped out of a red SUV, pushed a man to the ground and took his dog, a criminal complaint reads.

Officers responded to 438 Euclid Ave. shortly after 1 p.m. Aug. 6 for multiple reports of a man and woman fighting. On scene, officers found the man standing with a leash and dog collar. The man told police an unknown woman “jumped him” and stole his dog, according to the complaint. The man had scratches and cuts on his neck and arms from falling.

A witness on scene took a picture of the license plate on the SUV, which was registered to Finch, officials said. Police said the man does not know Finch.

Officers went to Finch’s home to arrest her for strong arm robbery, but she was not home. Police then went to speak with the man again, who provided paperwork that the dog is registered as an emotional support animal. Witnesses on Euclid Avenue confirmed the man walks the dog every day.

Police later learned that Finch relinquished the dog about nine months ago to a friend of the man, said Capt. Shawn Denning with the Greensburg Police Department. The friend then gave the dog to the man more than four months ago.

“As far as he knows he’s just walking his dog,” Denning said.

Denning noted that the dog was returned to the man.

Finch is charged with robbery, simple assault and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Court documents show Finch was arrested Aug. 6 and released on nonmonetary bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26.
