Greensburg officials will continue work Thursday on the next section of the Helman-Ghrist parking lot on North Main Street, depending on the weather.

“This week our objective is to get some of the binder down, then hopefully finish the top by Friday,” said city Public Works Director Tom Bell. “I assess all our lots and try to pick out one each year that needs done.”

Bell said the city hasn’t done much lot paving the past few years, and the Helman-Ghrist lot was starting to show some wear.

“This lot’s full every day. And once you get stress cracks and soft spots, you can have tripping hazards and it can get a little dangerous,” Bell said. “We want to make sure to have our lots in good shape, because parking downtown is at a premium.”

Bell said he hopes to have the lot finished and fully reopened by the middle of next week.
