State police have accused a Fayette County man of holding a woman captive for four days, during which they say he punched, strangled and threatened to kill her.
In a release issued Friday, state police said Kevin Patrick Fields, 33, of Redstone Township was arrested Dec. 16.
In court records, state police said troopers responded to a domestic call shortly before 10 a.m. that day on Hunters Road.
Fields told officers nothing was wrong, that he and his girlfriend had been sleeping and were awakened by troopers’ knock at the door, according to a criminal complaint. He claimed neighbors who had called 911 were the ones who were fighting.
Police said they had to pry information out of the 32-year-old woman, who was scared and reluctant to talk, fearing retaliation from Fields, according to the criminal complaint. She detailed the alleged abuse after being asked about bruising on her face.
Police said the woman told them she had been locked in the house and forbidden to leave for about four days, the complaint states. She told officers she had not eaten over that time and was continuously dry heaving and throwing up a yellow, bile-like liquid.
The woman told police Fields stabbed the bed while she was lying on it and said he was going to kill her, according to the complaint. She said Fields had beaten her with phone charging cords and thick electrical cords and slapped and punched her over the four days.
Police said they saw bruises on the woman’s face, forehead and cheek, the complaint states. Bruises on her legs were consistent with punches, and she had a bruise on her back.
Neighbors told officers they heard fighting coming from Fields’ and the woman’s apartment.
They said the woman ran to their house the previous night when she was able to escape Fields, and they were compelled to call police when they heard fighting continuing.
State police charged Fields with aggravated and simple assault, strangulation, unlawful restraint and terroristic threats.
He was held for trial after a preliminary hearing Dec. 29. He was denied bail and was being held in the Fayette County Prison, according to court records.
Fields is scheduled for formal arraignment Feb. 19.
