The driver involved in a three-vehicle crash in late March that killed himself and four others, including an infant, had cocaine in his system at the time of the collision, the Fayette County coroner reported Saturday.

All five people killed in the March 26 crash on Route 40 were from Delaware, Ohio, and were traveling in the same car, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The results of a toxicology report on driver Harold Nibert, 55, showed that he had cocaine in his system at the time of the crash, Fayette Coroner Bob Baker announced Saturday.

Nibert’s vehicle was traveling eastbound on Route 40 near New Meadow Run Drive when it crossed the double yellow line and struck a tractor-trailer head-on, state police said at the time.

The other people who died were identified as passengers Bradley Thivener, 47; Krystal May, 36; Amanda Dawson, 33; and her 7-month-old son, Kullen Dawson.

Emergency crews responded about 1:45 p.m. to the crash in Wharton Township.

Another passenger vehicle also was involved in the crash, Trooper Kalee Barnhart told TribLive news partner WTAE at the time.

Two people sustained minor injuries in the other vehicle, while the commercial vehicle driver was not injured. State police were investigating the cause of the crash, and the Fayette County Coroner’s Office and Fayette County District Attorney’s Office are assisting with the investigation.

A call to the state police in Fayette County on Saturday to get an update on the investigation was not immediately returned.
