Live Casino Pittsburgh in Hempfield’s Westmoreland Mall kicked off a series of bingo nights benefiting local charities.

Bingo takes place at the casino’s Venue Live event space every Monday. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo begins at 7 p.m.

The first event, held at the end of June, raised $21,000 for the Friends of Hempfield Parks, a nonprofit that supports the township’s recreation efforts, according to a casino spokesperson.

July bingo events are raising money for Educated Athletes First, an organization that seeks to support athletes on the field and in the classroom. It was started in 2018 by Jeannette High School graduate and former Cincinnati Bengals safety Demetrious Cox.

A record turnout of 335 players attended Monday’s bingo night, generating $16,000 of the $29,000 raised for Educated Athletes First, the spokesperson said.

August donations will support the Westmoreland Diversity Coalition, a nonprofit founded in 2016 to promote inclusion and equality throughout the county.

The casino at 5260 Route 30 East plans to continue the series beyond the summer months, said General Manager Sean Sullivan. The casino has not yet selected which charities will be supported by bingo nights beyond August, he said.
