In honor of Women’s History Month, the Latrobe Art Center is featuring an exhibit honoring five women who contributed to the city’s growth.

Titled “Remembering Her: A Reflection on Latrobe’s Women in the Arts,” the exhibit encourages attendees to reflect on women who were gifted artists and who also played a role in Latrobe’s growth and development through leadership roles or other activities.

The exhibit features five women: Mary Martha Himler, a renowned artist and teacher; Sara McComb, a librarian; Virginia Daniels, director of Latrobe’s Summer Day Camp; and Elizabeth Hazlett and Nancy Rogers Crozier, both co-founders and the Latrobe Art Center.

“Uncovering and learning the stories of these five extraordinary women has been a remarkable experience,” Michael Tusay, executive director of the Latrobe Art Center, said in a news release. “While these women had different specialties and artistic talents, their appreciation and love for the arts as well as their community unites them.”

Tusay added that through their respective specialties, the five women contributed to Latrobe through education, financial aid and by fostering creativity and positivity.

The exhibit was developed with the assistance of the Latrobe Historical Society, Greater Latrobe School District Art Conservation Trust, GLSD Center for Student Creativity and the Adams Memorial Library.

More information on the women and the exhibit can be found at latrobeartcenter.org/events-all/remembering-her. The free exhibit can be viewed during the center’s normal hours. It runs through March 31.

“They truly are an inspiration,” Tusay said.
