While Amazon officials have not officially announced what a $120 million facility in New Stanton will be used for, the company’s website is soliciting job applications for “fulfillment center warehouse associate” positions in New Stanton.
Amazon has a fulfillment center and robotic sorting facility west of Pittsburgh in Findlay. When it opened in 2020, Amazon officials said it employed more than 1,000 workers. Additional warehouses are in Ohio Township near Interstate 79 and in Pittsburgh’s West End.
Pay rates for the warehouse associate positions, for shifts running from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., range up to $17.75 per hour, according to Amazon.
Earlier this spring, the e-commerce behemoth, notoriously guarded about its operations, gave a behind-the-scenes look at the North Versailles site that quietly opened in August. If you live in western Westmoreland County, chances are your Amazon packages will come through this facility, officials said.
The New Stanton warehouse, located above Glenn Fox Road, could create about 600 jobs, according to Matt Virgin, senior vice president for SunCap Property Group LLC of Charlotte, N.C., the site developer.
The warehouse is south of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and bounded by Westinghouse Drive and Glenn Fox Road. Amazon trucks would travel over the turnpike on the Glenn Fox Road bridge and turn onto Arona Road, traveling about a mile to the turnpike.
Late last year, Amazon officials leased a mini-fulfillment center in South Buffalo, a climate-controlled modular storage facility with 12 separate bays, used daily by Amazon delivery drivers to access and pick up packages for local delivery.
In addition to the Amazon warehouse, New Stanton is home to a UPS terminal, with both shipping companies looking to take advantage of the borough’s proximity to Interstate 70 and the turnpike.
Amazon officials could not be immediately reached for comment.
