The Red Cross is assisting six adults and two children who were displaced by a fire Thursday evening at their home in Hempfield.

The fire victims were being provided temporary housing and other needs, according to fire officials.

More than a half dozen fire companies responded to the fire Thursday evening in the 200 block of New Row Road.

Fire crews spent about 45 minutes battling the fire at the house, according to Hempfield fire Chief Anthony Kovacic. The fire was reported around 6:30 p.m.

“It was in the walls, and we had some minor issues,” he said.

No one was reported injured and all the tenants who were home were able to safely evacuate the house, which is near the Forbes Road Volunteer Fire Department.

Kovacic said a fire marshal is expected to investigate the fire on Friday morning.
