A Greensburg man admitted to city police he fired “at least one, but maybe two shots” from a handgun at a man to protect himself during an altercation at a woman’s home , according to court documents.

Both the alleged shooter, Aaron M. Cicio, 36, and the intended target, Jeremy R. Hill, 36, of Donegal, were charged Tuesday with simple assault by police following the 11 a.m. Friday incident at the woman’s residence on the 300 block of Hancock Avenue in Greensburg.

Patrolman Kerry Dieter said police were called to the residence for a report of a burglary but, when officers arrived, they saw Hill fleeing. He stopped as patrol cars drove up to the home and told investigators a man inside had just fired several shots at him.

Dieter reported Hill was not struck by any of the bullets allegedly fired from Cicio’s handgun.

Witnesses at the home, including Cicio, Hill and the female resident, said Hill went to the home to visit the woman whom he formerly dated but, when he entered, he allegedly went “straight” to an upstairs bedroom where Cicio was hiding. Witnesses told police Hill “kicked in the door” and began punching and choking Cicio.

Cicio said he pulled out the handgun and fired.

“Cicio admitted he was aiming at Hill and aimed lower, towards his legs,” Dieter wrote in court documents.

Although Cicio told investigators he believed he fired just one or two shots, Hill claimed Cicio shot at him at least three times.

Neither Cicio or Hill could be reached for comment. Neither has an attorney listed in court documents.

The complaints were sent via mailed summons. Preliminary hearings tentatively are scheduled July 16.
