Vandergrift police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man they said illegally dumped a big screen TV Wednesday in Kennedy Park.

Chief Joe Caporali said surveillance footage obtained from Kennedy Park recorded a man getting out of what appears to be a dark Jeep Grand Cherokee with a large television.

The incident occurred around 2:35 p.m. along Jackson Avenue.

Caporali said borough workers were called to remove the TV.

The chief said the man faces a $300 fine for illegally dumping the TV in the park.

Additionally, the suspect will have to reimburse the borough for the electronic disposal fee that’s required when such TVs are properly discarded, Caporali said.

Parts of Kennedy Park are under 24/7 video surveillance and are monitored by the police department. Vandergrift officials approved the purchase and installation of the cameras last year.

Councilman John Uskuraitus spearheaded the effort in an effort to curb vandalism.

Previous vandalism incidents included damage to the park’s stage roof and brick foundation, littering with unused condoms on a scheduled day of an Easter egg hunt, and offensive graffiti found on the entrance to the park.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vandergrift police at 724-568-5507 or call Westmoreland County 911.

Callers may remain anonymous.
