Seed library available at Peoples Library

Peoples Library will sponsor a Seed Library starting Monday at both the Lower Burrell and New Kensington locations

Patrons can check out three packets of seeds each visit for a total of 12 per growing season. Seeds should be planted and the plants harvested and seeds saved.

After the harvest, bring your seeds to the library for placement in the collection for someone else. For more information, call 724-339-1021.


Rotary offers annual scholarships to high school seniors

The Bob Williams Memorial Rotary Scholarship, sponsored by Rotary District 7305 Foundation, will award at least eight need-based $5,000 scholarships to high school seniors for the 2024-25 academic year.

High school seniors and vocational and GED students in Allegheny and Beaver counties as well as those who attend Valley, Burrell and Kiski Area high schools are eligible to apply. Students must have a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher and complete an essay that highlights their community and school service.

Complete application materials are found on Rotary District 7305 website, rotarydistrict7305.org, under the scholarship link and from school guidance counselors. Applications deadline is Feb. 28. For details, contact Robert Arbuckle at rarbuckle66@gmail.com.

Thursday: The Alle-Kiski Chapter of the American Wine Society will meet at 7 p.m. at River Forest Country Club, 130 Club House Drive. East Vandergrift

Today : Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary is selling tickets for a $250 cash raffle. The drawing will be at 3 p.m. today. Tickets will be sold from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in the hospital lobby, 1301 Carlisle St. Proceeds will benefit auxiliary projects for the hospital. Cost: $2 per ticket; cash and checks accepted.

Saturday: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Jan. 17: Tri-County Trout Club is accepting table reservations for its annual sport show and flea market planned at Patterson Hall at Guardian Angels Parish, 800 Montana Ave. Vendors must sell new, used or collectable fishing, hunting, camping or sports items. Saturday: The ClothesLine Ministry at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 3084 Leechburg Road, will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost: clothing, shoes and purses, 25 cents each or five for $1; special occasion clothing, leather coats, designer shoes and purses, $5 to $10. The jewelry room will be open and several bridal gowns are available. Please bring your own bags.

New Kensington  

Jan. 16: Animal Protectors will sponsor its No Father’s Day neuter clinic for male cats at the shelter, 730 Church St. Cost: neutering and a rabies vaccine, $40; FVRCP, $10; FIV/FELV testing, $25; and $30 for microchipping.
