Pa. Litter Hawk Youth Award accepting entries

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is accepting projects for its Litter Hawk Youth Award program for students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Students complete a project specific to their grade level, individually or as a part of a lesson initiated by schools, scout troops or other organizations. Grades and projects include kindergarten through fourth grade, poster; fifth grade, an essay; and sixth grade, a video.

This year’s theme is “Celebrate America 250 – Keep It Beautiful.” First and second place in each grade level will be awarded certificates. All participants will receive a Litter Hawk sticker. Entry deadline is Jan. 31.

Thursday: The Alle-Kiski Chapter of the American Wine Society will meet at 7 p.m. at River Forest Country Club, 130 Club House Drive. Speaker Jill Kummer, a wine educator and consultant with Taste Great Wines in Allison Park, will discuss, “Great Wines for Post-holiday Gatherings.” Wines will be served paired with food. Cost: $47. Today: Ar-Ken American Legion will meet at 2 p.m. at the Arnold Public Safety Building, 601 Drey St. The group meets the second Saturday of each month.

East Vandergrift 

Sunday: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish will have bingo at 2 p.m. in the church social hall, 411 McKinley Ave. Doors open at 1 p.m. There will be a 49-number jackpot game, a 51-number picture frame game and a magic number game. Details: 724-478-4958.

Harrison 

Today: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Jan. 17: Tri-County Trout Club is accepting table reservations for its annual sport show and flea market planned at Patterson Hall at Guardian Angels Parish, 800 Montana Ave. Vendors must sell new, used or collectable fishing, hunting, camping or sports items. Kiski Township

Leechburg

Monday: Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company will host bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 268 Canal St. Doors open at 5 p.m. The kitchen will be open.

Lower Burrell  

Today: The ClothesLine Ministry at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 3084 Leechburg Road, will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost: clothing, shoes and purses, 25 cents each or five for $1; special occasion clothing, leather coats, designer shoes and purses, $5 to $10. The jewelry room will be open and several bridal gowns are available. Please bring your own bags.

Jan. 31: A spaghetti dinner to benefit cancer patient Janet Powell will be at the Kinloch Volunteer Firehall, 915 New York Ave. Donations of gift certificates, gift baskets, pasta sauce, pasta, rolls, butter, salad, desserts, plates, and to-go containers are being accepted. Through Feb. 28: The works of local mixed media artist Lynn Jacques, a member of the Allegheny Valley League of Artists, will be on display during business hours at Peoples Library, 3052 Wachter Ave.

New Kensington  

Friday : Animal Protectors will sponsor its No Father’s Day neuter clinic for male cats at the shelter, 730 Church St. Cost: neutering and a rabies vaccine, $40; FVRCP, $10; FIV/FELV testing, $25; and $30 for microchipping. Parks Township

Monday: The quilting group at Holiday Park United Methodist Church, 81 Sandune Drive, will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church chapel. The group sews baby quilts for donation to those in need and the Linus Project. New members welcome. Meetings are the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Sharpsburg 

Jan. 18: A bingo fundraiser to benefit Addiction Recovery Ministry in Sharpsburg will be at 2 p.m. in the John Paul I Center, 201 Ninth St. Tickets: $25, and include six cards for 10 regular games, five specials and one jackpot. Monday: Streetlight Ministries, 203 W. Seventh Ave., will have a weekly food pantry from noon to 2 p.m. for anyone in need. There is a sign-up sheet in the vestibule after 8:30 a.m. Mondays and people are admitted through the line in order of sign up. A variety of breads, sweet goods, canned items, produce and meats will be available. Walk-ins are welcome but will admitted after those who have registered.

Vandergrift

Mondays through March 19: Vandergrift Public Library will sponsor a chess club for children in kindergarten through eighth grade from 6 to 7 p.m. at 163 Washington Ave. Students are paired with others their age and are guided by a chess master and volunteers.
