State police from the Kittanning station charged a man with felony gun possession after he got into a crash along Route 28.

Naszer Simmons-Christopher, 20, of Duquesne, was charged with carrying a firearm without a license along with carrying a loaded weapon, driving under the influence and traffic violations, according to a criminal complaint filed Feb. 8.

A trooper responding to a crash Oct. 17 along Route 28 in Harmar said Simmons-Christoper was intoxicated, speeding and weaving in traffic when he wrecked, the complaint said.

Simmons-Christopher also failed a field sobriety test and agreed to allow blood to be drawn to determine the level of alcohol or drugs in his system, the complaint said. The results of those tests were not included in his arrest papers.

Police said that when they searched the vehicle after taking Simmons-Christoper into custody they found a Glock handgun outfitted with an extended magazine.

Investigators noted that Simmons-Christopher was 19 when the incident occurred, and that people must be 21 or older in Pennsylvania to be eligible for a permit to carry a concealed gun.

He faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge David Sosovicka on April 4.
