Truck seized by U.S. carrying liquor
An automobile truck with $2,000 of whisky and wine headed from New York City to Vandergrift was seized by federal authorities when the vehicle stalled near Greensburg. The incident occurred weeks after the nationwide prohibition of liquor was underway.

Staff Sgt. Petracco of Brackenridge dies in action
SSgt. Victor J. Petracco, 27, one of Brackenridge’s most decorated infantryman, was killed in action in Italy Jan. 28. Days earlier, Petracco had received a bravery citation from Gen. Mark W. Clark.

Moore fills East Deer board seat
East Deer Township commissioners appointed Harry Moore, 42, to fill the unexpired term of Commissioner Charles Miller. There were eight applicants for the seat, vacated when Miller accepted a job promotion in Atlanta.

About 120 people crammed into the Armstrong County Army Reserve to review three proposed routes the extend the Route 28 expressway from the Graff Bridge in Manor to the intersection of Routes 28/66/422 and 85 north of Kittanning.

St. Joseph mounts comeback before losing to Duquesne
After scoring 13 points in the final 1 minute, 23 seconds of play, St. Joseph lost the WPIAL Class A title game, 54-52, to Duquesne at A.J. Palumbo Center. Josh Robinson led the Spartans with 17 points.

New Kensington police are asking residents to keep their snow blowers in a locked garage or shed. At least four snow blowers have been stolen in the last week in response to February’s record snow.

Lower Burrell Zoning Board OKs unmanned fuel outlet
The Lower Burrell Zoning Hearing Board approved a proposed unmanned gas station along Route 366 in the Kinloch section of the city. Glassmere Fuel Service of West Deer will operate the station with four fueling islands.
