Leechburg’s proposed 2025 budget calls for no tax increase.
The budget includes over $1.3 million in expenditures with just over $1.2 million in revenue according to the borough’s proposed budget. The gap will be filled by a projected $100,000 surplus from this year’s budget.
“The proposal has no millage increase,” said council member DJ Zelczak.
The tentative budget calls for the borough’s real estate tax rate to remain at 22.5 mills, with residents owning property with an assessed median value of $32,600 continuing to pay the borough $733.50.
According to the proposed budget, the majority of revenue comes from real estate, earned income, property taxes and local service taxes. Total collections are predicted to bring in almost $770,000.
Notable expenditures include almost $210,000 dedicated to public works and more than $360,000 dedicated to public safety.
New expenditures include an extra $3,000 for the borough’s Shade Tree Commission. The group will receive $11,000 in 2025 instead of the previous allocation of $8,000. The borough’s Christmas lights display will cost $1,300 when, according to the borough’s 2024 budget comparison, in previous years it’s been free to the borough. Council President Tom Foster attributed the cost to the increasing price of equipment required for installation.
The budget can be amended until council members vote to finalize it on Dec. 17.
