A New Kensington woman was charged with robbery and assault after a resident at the Central Towers high-rise told police she sucker-punched him and searched through his pockets because he owed her money that he had borrowed to buy drugs.
Isis Marie Grey, 27, of 8 Pine Court was charged with a felony count of robbery along with counts of making terroristic threats and simple assault.
Grey was released from custody on a $50,000 unsecured bond, according to court records. She faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr. on Oct. 27.
Police wrote in a criminal complaint against Grey that a man came into the New Kensington police station Oct. 8 to report he had been robbed at Central Towers.
The man told police he was sitting at the apartment complex when Grey came up and punched him twice in the right side of the head before stealing his cellphone and wallet, which held his ID card, Social Security card, food stamps and bus pass. The phone was valued at $200, and the wallet cost $35, the complaint said.
The man said Grey threatened to kill him if he called the police, according to the complaint.
When asked to provide additional information about Grey, the man told police he “borrowed money from her for drugs and was going to pay her back on Wednesday,” the complaint said.
The man’s injuries were checked by an emergency medical technician at the police station before he was transported to Allegheny Valley Hospital in Harrison, according to police.
Police said surveillance video from a camera at Central Towers shows a woman, later identified as Grey, striking the man in the face twice before going through his jacket and removing items.
