Pittsburgh Regional Transit on Tuesday will begin hosting public hearings about a proposal that would increase fares and drastically cut services.
The first public hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and 3 until 7 p.m. at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center’s Pittsburgh Ballroom.
People can sign up online to speak online through 5 p.m. Monday, though walk-ins also will be welcome.
The transit authority, facing a massive budget deficit, is looking to raise fares by 25 cents, end all service after 11 p.m., eliminate the light-rail Silver line and 41 of its roughly 100 bus routes and drastically cut back other routes.
The agency faces a $100 million deficit in 2026 and has called on the commonwealth to help fil its budget gap.
Additional public hearings are scheduled for May 6 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum and June 12 at David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
