A popular event in downtown New Kensington will run a bit longer this year.
Fridays on Fifth, a monthly food truck event, will go from April to October in 2026.
Dates are April 24, May 22, June 26, July 24, Aug. 28, Sept. 25 and Oct. 23. The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. along Fifth Avenue between Ninth and 11th streets.
Launched in 2021, Fridays on Fifth aims to spotlight downtown’s growing business district, where many of the businesses stay open later.
It also has drawn an array of food trucks, including barbecue, Mexican, Mediterranean, Italian, Vietnamese and Polish fare. There usually is live music.
Mayor Thomas Guzzo said the popularity of Fridays on Fifth has grown every year. He said people had requested the city do an additional Fridays on Fifth event in October.
“The weather might be a little cooler, but I think it will be great,” Guzzo said.
Guzzo said the street festival “has meant so much to the City of New Kensington” and draws thousands into the city.
“It brings down people who live in New Kensington, and it has become so popular that it pulls in people from all of our surrounding areas, providing them not only with the opportunity to have a nice time on a Friday evening but also a chance for them to see all of the exciting things happening in our downtown,” Guzzo said.
