A West Deer man accused of shooting a man during a scuffle at a Frazer auto salvage yard will cover the other man’s medical bills and then plead guilty to a summary charge of disorderly conduct, according to a deal announced Monday.

That was the consensus reached among District Judge Michael Girardi, prosecutors and Lyle Dresbold, an attorney representing 40-year-old Jonathan Nealer during a hearing in Girardi’s Harmar courtroom.

Allegheny County Police originally charged Nealer with a felony count of aggravated assault in connection to the July 17 incident when authorities said Nealer shot the other man in the leg at Hloznik Auto Salvage Yard on Clarks Pike Road.

The shooting victim was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

A short time after the shooting was reported, Nealer called 911 to turn himself in to authorities, police said. A criminal complaint filed against Nealer said that Nealer told police he had left the yard to avoid further confrontation.

It appeared the shooting stemmed from an argument. Nealer and the other man gave police differing accounts of the details of the disagreement.

Nealer’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 18, when he is expected to plead guilty. He faces a maximum fine of $300 and 90 days of incarceration.
