An array of more than 60 vendors will be available Saturday to kick off Lower Burrell’s farmers market.
The Joseph “Bud” Myers Lower Burrell Farmers Market will begin its summer season from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Bon Air Elementary School parking lot.
“The market is all about our community,” co-organizer Pam Key said. “It’s a place for community members, from near and far, to gather.
“The market is also a place for our local businesses and other businesses to highlight their products and, hopefully, draw people into their actual brick-and-mortar buildings or online sales.”
The farmers market runs every Saturday until Oct. 5.
“I’m so excited for the market season to start because I love the social aspect,” said fellow co-organizer, Carley Logan. “I get to socialize with old and new friends every Saturday thanks to the market.
“One of my personal goals of building the market is building our community. I can say with 100% confidence that our community is larger, stronger and more connected thanks to the market.”
Of the 61 vendors that will be available Saturday, 37 will attend the market either weekly, biweekly or monthly, Logan said. There will be three food trucks: Main Squeeze, Olive & Rye and Eddie’s Backyard BBQ.
Products offered by vendors include fresh produce and baked goods; beef, pork and seafood; flowers and plants; and body care products, Logan said.
“I’m also excited to provide the community access to fresh foods that they wouldn’t always find in the grocery stores,” Logan said. “Every purchase supports our farmers and small businesses, building our local commerce.”
Two special-themed markets are planned throughout the year, including a Christmas in July event July 13 and a Harvest Festival on Oct. 5. Those events also will have more than 60 vendors, Logan said.
