The Harrison commissioners are proposing a hefty list of work for this year’s paving.
More than a dozen roads have been tentatively approved, including portions of busy Broadview Boulevard and Dallas Avenue.
Township Manager Amy Rockwell said the 2024 budget for paving is about $400,000.
“Roads are reviewed annually by the superintendent of public works and the township engineer,” Rockwell said. “They submit their recommendations to the board for approval before assembling the annual bids for advertisement.”
Included this year are:
• Broadview Boulevard, from Alabama Avenue to Argonne Drive;
• Broadview Boulevard, from Dallas to Montana avenues;
• Dallas Avenue;
• Third Street;
• Acee Drive;
• Jacqueline Drive;
• Harrison Avenue;
• Kingston Drive;
• Ivanhoe Street;
• 12th Avenue;
• 10th/11th avenues Alley;
• Municipal Drive.
Final approval of selected streets will be determined after bids are submitted.
Commissioner Chuck Dizard said this year’s paving list was balanced carefully and within budget. In his 1st Ward neighborhood, Dizard is eager to see more portions of Broadview Boulevard on the list following last year’s project to pave the section near the Heights Plaza Shopping Center.
“Also a long overdue block of Third Street is on the list and a small section by Silverlake,” he said.
Silverlake Park, situated between Carlisle Street and Route 28, underwent major renovations since late 2022, which included a walking trail and now draws more residents to the area.
Dizard said exclusive of the paving project, Harbison Street also will be targeted for reconstruction.
The road, in the township’s 4th Ward, is eroding because it has no storm sewers and nowhere for rainwater runoff to go.
“It will finally be repaired with new storm sewers, a proper road bed and asphalt,” Dizard said.
Rockwell said costs will be assisted by grants awarded through the Small Water and Sewer Grant Program.
