A fire early Saturday extensively damaged and broke up a Christmas party at a Harrison bar and restaurant, according to social media posts from Hilltop Hose Co.

The fire at Bird Dog’s Sports Bar & Grill, at 2615 Freeport Road, was reported at 12:12 a.m. Saturday, the fire department’s Facebook page reported.

Firefighters said upon arrival there was heavy smoke in the area and the tavern was in the process of evacuating customers and employees.

No injuries were reported.

Manager Ashlie Daniels, the daughter of owner Bruce Daniels, reported on the tavern’s Facebook page that the fire started in an office during a Christmas party.

“What started out as an epic and amazing Christmas Party turned into quite a scary night,” Daniels wrote.

“We had a fire in our office, which was contained thanks to our amazing customers who jumped in to help,” she wrote. Daniels also acknowledged the help from “awesome firefighters and police officers. We are so grateful and thankful that no one got hurt and for each and everyone of you,” she wrote.

However, she said the facility will have to temporarily close due to water and smoke damage.

“The bar/restaurant area was not affected but the banquet room is destroyed. Of course, we have Christmas parties and events scheduled for the holidays that we cannot hold.”

Daniels said those who have events scheduled would be contacted soon.

She requested that anyone in the area who may have a hall available or room to accommodate 35-60 people to contact her. She said she can be contacted at 724-994-6490 or via email at ashlie@birddogssportsbarandgrill.com.

Neither fire officials nor members of the Daniels family could be reached for comment Saturday morning.

The Daniels family opened the tavern restaurant, formerly known as the Do Drop Inn, in October 2018.
