Let’s get ready to rumble.
The Keystone State Wrestling Alliance, based in Lawrenceville, will showcase a number of matches Nov. 9 at Pioneer Hose Company in Brackenridge.
Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10.
“Rebel Rumble” will help raise money for Brandy Marie Cheer, nicknamed the Rebels, based in Sarver.
These fundraisers help with the cost of competitions outside of Pennsylvania. Organizers are expecting 200 guests for the event.
“We hope to keep the trips affordable for families,” says Nicole Jones of Natrona Heights, president of Brandy Marie Cheer parent group and mother of two girls on the squad.
Cheer on
Brandy Marie Cheer includes members from more than 14 school districts in the Alle-Kiski Valley. The cheerleaders meet girls from all over the area, Jones says, forming lifelong friendships. Brandy Marie Cheer participants are ages 3-14. The group hosts various fundraisers every month.
What attendees will see at the wrestling event is similar competitions from World Wrestling Entertainment. The alliance will celebrate 20 years in 2020 and does 25 shows like this a year. Most are fundraisers.
“We like to be involved in such fundraisers and enjoy traveling to other venues like Pioneer Hose,” says Lou Zygmuncik, a wrestler from Stanton Heights, who handles publicity for the alliance. Pioneer Hose Company hosted the alliance in March. “It’s about more than wrestling. It’s about being a part of the community.”
Something different
Wrestling is a different option from than hoagies or candy or candles for fundraisers, Zygmuncik says. There will be raffles and food and drinks for sale during the wrestling event.
The wrestling alliance is great, Jones says, because the athletes do a great job interacting with the crowd. It’s family entertainment, Jones says.
“It’s an evening the entire family can enjoy and be a part of,” Zygmuncik says. “Some events are only for adults, but we welcome adults and children. We realize how important these fundraisers are because they defray some of the costs for traveling to cheerleading competitions.”
