A woman was shot in the head early Friday morning and the suspect barricaded himself in a nearby apartment, said Pittsburgh Police.

Police said they arrived at an apartment in the 900 block of Woodlow Street just after 2 a.m. on Friday and found a 27-year-old woman shot in the head.

She was transferred to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh’s North Side and was listed in critical condition, according to police.

Police said the woman was shot by a known man during a domestic dispute, and the man then fled the apartment and sought refuge in a nearby residence.

The man then barricaded himself in that residence, which initiated a SWAT response, said police.

Police were able to make contact with the man, and after about three hours, he surrendered without further incident and was taken into custody, according to police.

Police did not identify the suspect in a new release regarding the incident.
