Parents and guardians of preschool and kindergarteners will have a special opportunity to mingle with school, daycare and related entities at the Sewickley Public Library.

A special open house at 500 Thorn St. is set for 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 10.

Organizers said the event brings together representatives from a wide range of local preschools, childcare centers and kindergarten programs.

Families will have the opportunity to meet teachers and program staff, ask questions, and gather information about curricula, enrollment, and learning environments.

It also allows families to see what the library has to offer, including its renovated storytime room.

Sweetwater Center for the Arts partnered with the library to provide more children’s activities that day.

Jen Farmeire, library head of children’s services, said close to 90 parents and children attended last year’s open house.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for parents to meet-and-greet with preschools throughout the Quaker Valley area and find out more about their programs,” she said. “The response has been really good. We have 12 schools this year coming, which is the most we ever had.”

Participating agencies include:

• The Village Preschool at Laughlin Children’s Center

• Robinson Township Christian School

• Fern Hollow Nature Center

• Sewickley Montessori (YMCA)

• Sewickley Academy.

• FriendShip Preschool

• Noah’s Ark Preschool and Kindergarten

• The Learning Tree Preschool

• Quaker Valley Kindergarten

• Saint James Catholic School

• Baden Academy Charter School

• YMCA Pre-K at Osborne Elementary School

• Allegheny Land Trust

Farmerie said library staffers have monthly programs at the site, including storytimes.

“We feel like we’re a great point of connection for the childcare centers and our families here at the library,” Farmerie said. “We’re just glad that we’re able to bring everyone together to just meet and find out about the programs that are offered.”

Admission is free and no registration is required. A snow date of Jan. 17 is planned in case of inclement weather.
