Many restaurants and other food and beverage establishments came onto the culinary scene in Western Pennsylvania in 2025, while others had to close their doors for good. Here are the notable food scene openings and closings in 2025.

Hi, We’re Open

1930 by Atria’s

This well-known establishment in Mt. Lebanon rebranded with a makeover and opened in the spring. The fresh look includes high-end spirits and specialty cocktails. The cuisine is “American leading with a twist,” 1930s by Atria’s serves weekend brunch.

AVVA

AVVA, a new Mediterranean-themed restaurant in Aspinwall, is located inside the former Luke & Mike’s. The menu features lamb, fish, beef, chicken, vegetarian options, octopus, kabobs, hummus, Greek-influenced salads, calamari, Turkish meatballs and shrimp.

Bryant Street Tavern

A new seafood restaurant and bar replaced Park Bruges in Highland Park. The cuisine concept is New England-style seafood with a mix of options such as sandwiches, salads, burgers and other entrées.

Black Beauty Bar & Grill

Roberta Brassell, longtime owner of Black Beauty’s Bar & Grill in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, reopened the establishment following a renovation.

Camino Cocteleria and Cocina

Located in the former Del’s restaurant in Bloomfield, this place offers Mexican fare.

Cava

The Mediterranean restaurant opened in Oakland and also inside The Meridian, a new development at the border of Shadyside and East Liberty.

F&F Pizza

New Yorkers Frank Castronovo and Frank Falcinelli met a James Beard Award-winning chef through a connection with late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. The meeting led them to open F&F Pizzeria in the old Bado’s Pizza Grill & Ale House in Mt. Lebanon. The New York-inspired pizza is made with fermented dough, fresh cheese, organic tomatoes and their own olive oil.

Foxhole Tavern

The former Tavern In The Wall in Aspinwall has been transformed into a casually chic restaurant and bar with American classics such as burgers, fish and chips, chicken parmigiana, pastas, steak frites, mussels, oysters on the half shell and more.

Grist House Command

A former Cold War missile command center was transformed into a brewery and taproom in Collier. Owned by Grist House Craft Brewery in Millvale, the establishment features three dog-friendly decks, a full kitchen and a rotating lineup of Grist House beers brewed on-site.

Hey Babe

The throwback lounge is located inside the historic YMCA building in East Liberty at the Maverick Hotel. The craft cocktail-driven bar features zesty seasonal bites, upscale lounge aesthetics, moody lighting, vibey music and a fun atmosphere. The menu highlights seasonal and local produce with a variety of sandwiches, salads and shareable apps.

La Vigneta Winery

La Vigneta Winery opened in Winfield at the former site of the Cooper Station Restaurant on North Pike Road (Route 356). The winemaker previously operated a small tasting room in Buffalo Township.

Mezeh Mediterranean

A fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant opened in South Fayette at the Piazza shopping center. It serves customizable rice bowls, salads and wraps.

Moonlit Burgers

The place known for its smashburgers — where the beef is initially shaped like a meatball and gets smashed down and grilled — opened in Sewickley. It is the third location for the business, which serves its burgers with shoestring fries.

Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings

The Queens, N.Y.-based chain opened a spot in Pittsburgh’s South Side. It is most known for its southern Chinese cuisine — soup dumplings, tasty little pouches of dumpling dough filled with savory broth and various meats, seafood and vegetables.

Palm Palm

The former Plum Asian Bistro in East Liberty is now Palm Palm, which has craft dishes such as sushi tots, big eye tuna and street corn taquitos with roasted corn, blended cheese and avocado as well as New York strip and filet and bluefin tuna steak.

Palm Palm has a full bar with an extensive wine list, cocktails and mocktails and serves brunch on weekends.

Park House

The historic Park House returns to the Pittsburgh North Side area known as Deutschtown. The place will feature a classic Irish-Italian pub menu.

Pittsburgh International Airport

The new airport opened in November in Findlay and Moon and with it several concessions such as Sambazon Acai Bowls, Jimmy John’s, Shake Shack, Convive Coffee, Stack + Press Delicatessen, Café Conmigo, Joe & the Juice and Mi Casa Cantina. Mineo’s Pizza is set to open soon.

Polska Laska

Using a family recipe, each pierogi is made by hand with fillings of potato and aged-white cheddar, sauerkraut and mushroom, among other flavors and vegan options in Sharpsburg. The place serves soups and kielbasa, haluski and cabbage rolls.

Poulet Bleu

Re-opened in Lawrenceville, the French-inspired bistro is back after renovations for water damage to the restaurant’s first and second floors.

Rival

The sports-themed restaurant and bar opened a second location in the former Walnut Grill in The Waterworks Mall in Pittsburgh near Aspinwall. It offers a menu of salads, wings, pizza, burgers and chicken.

Rockaway Pizzeria

The new location opened in Regent Square. Rockaway, once based in White Oak, which received a high rating from Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, serves thin-crust Italian pizza, including specialty pies.

Shiloh Plate & Pour

Located in the former Redbeard’s Sports Bar & Grill on Mt. Washington, this place offers chef-inspired takes on classic bar favorites — burgers, wings, shareable apps and seasonal dishes. It has a curated selection of craft beers, cocktails and wine.

Smashed ‘N Fried

Located inside Mondays Brewing Co. in Pittsburgh’s Greenfield neighborhood, this place offers smash burgers of double patties seasoned and topped with onions, cheese and a special sauce — on a buttered and toasted Martin’s potato roll with a side of shoestring fries.

Sushi Tomo

Located in the former Little Tokyo Bistro on Pittsburgh’s South Side, the restaurant serves sushi and authentic Japanese cuisine such as beef teriyaki and geisha rolls.

The Original Yinzer Dogs

The first brick-and-mortar store opened in Cranberry. The concept started as The Original Yinzer Dogs food truck, inspired by the Original Hot Dog Shop that closed in Oakland in April 2020. Menu items include a kielbasa sandwich on grilled Cellone’s Italian bread, Yinzer Bites — mini-pierogies filled with mashed potatoes and cheese — Mama Marino’s fried jumbo and an ice cream “sammich.”

Tapville Social

Tapville Social in Pittsburgh’s Strip District offers 32 beers and 16 wines lining a wall with a self-pour tap experience. It also has non-alcoholic and alcoholic iced coffee flights. The eatery serves food from burgers to Cajun pasta as well as salads and desserts.

Title 9 PGH

A women’s sports bar opened in East Liberty inspired by Title IX, a federal law, passed in 1972, barring sex discrimination in government-funded education programs, including sports. Title 9 has a full bar and eight televisions to show local and nationally televised women’s sporting events. It serves everything from wings to flatbreads to burgers.

Toastique

Western Pennsylvania’s first Toastique opened in Mt. Lebanon, serving gourmet toasts, fresh-pressed juices, bowls, smoothies and coffee drinks.

Other food and drink openings

Club Cafe Coffee House

The South Side music venue opened a coffee house with a menu of specialty coffees and teas, local baked goods and breakfast sandwiches from Pittsburgh Sandwich Society.

Brother Andre’s Cafe

A second cafe opened in Bellevue. The coffee shop hires adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This location is in The Church of the Assumption in Bellevue, a worship site of Regina Coeli Parish.

Cardinal Coffee Roasters

Cardinal Coffee Roasters opened in Jeannette, serving its specialty coffee and tea products and bear claws, cinnamon rolls and cookies from Happy Camper Cakes, a Hempfield-based bakery.

Burghers Brewing Co.

Burghers Brewing Co. opened a new flagship location in Millvale in a former bank. At 14,000 square feet, the new brewery features two floors with two bars.

Dancing Gnome Brewery

The establishment reopened its original taproom as 925 in Sharpsburg, a new specialty cocktail bar located a block away from the well-established brewery in Sharpsburg. It serves Pennsylvania-produced wines, liquors, Dancing Gnome brews and non-alcoholic mocktails.

Flora Park Creamery

The place in Bethel Park sells 20 flavors of selections from Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream, as well as a few other choices from companies in Wisconsin and Ohio. The shop is closed in the winter. The owners also own Flora Park Garden Center located nearby.

Hound Haus coffee shop, bar and dog park opened in East Liberty.

Moochi & You

Located in Bellevue, the shop serves signature donuts as well as Korean corn hot dogs. Also on the menu are classic boba, also known as bubble tea, a popular Asian drink that often consists of a milky sweet tea and tapioca pearl balls.

Paris Baguette

Paris Baguette, a Korean pastry shop, opened in Shadyside. Another local shop is in Ross.

Pre Amp Coffee Studio

This place in Squirrel Hill offers a curated selection of espresso drinks, pour-overs, teas, and house-made pastries while music is spinning on vinyl playing in the background.

Ruckus Café

Located in Downtown Pittsburgh, this second location is a place where coffee, music, food and art intersect. The cafe doubles as an art gallery displaying pieces from local artists and serves breakfast, salads and baked goods.

The Bocce House of Pittsburgh

The unique complex that opened in RIDC Park in O’Hara has six regulation-size bocce courts, custom-made bocce balls, a posh cigar lounge and a spacious bar and cafe. Menu items include bocce fried meatballs — crispy bite-sized meatballs dusted with Romano cheese, served alongside house-made marinara — chicken wings, shrimp, french fries and Italian sausage bites and several hand-tossed pizzas.

This café in Sewickley offers Latin American coffee, small bites and sweets.

Sorry, We’re Closed

Abie & Bimbo’s Pizza

Greensburg’s Abie & Bimbo’s Pizza in Greensburg closed after 57 years. It was known for its Pizzaroni subs and giant fish sandwiches, and owner Doug Mirolli declined to give specifics on why he made the decision.

Anchor Inn

After 72 years in business, this staple in Harrison closed because of staffing challenges. A new restaurant is expected to go into the space. Corey Pistininzi and Sean Watson, owners of BotL in New Kensington and National Public House in Leechburg, purchased the building and are working out a new restaurant concept.

Atria’s

The Murrysville location closed, but a location is planned for the Strip District, along with Juniper Grill to replace Osteria 2350 and Cioppino in the Cork Factory Lofts garage.

Better-Maid Donut

The donut shop closed in Crafton Heights but is preparing to reopen nearby.

Bonfire Food & Drink

Located in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood, it closed in mid-February, the decision a result of the death of owner Chris Bonfili’s father.

Carmi Express

The restaurant on Pittsburgh’s North Side closed, according to social media posts. The soul food restaurant had been serving Pittsburgh home-style Southern soul food for 13 years. It will continue to serve Pittsburgh — but through catering, private events, special collaborations and pop-ups, according to the post.

Dino’s Sports Lounge

The Greensburg location closed in June after 15 years in business. Its Unity location remains open seven days a week.

Eat’n Park

One of two locations in Ross closed earlier this month after 46 years of business. Another Eat’n Park, on the northbound side of McKnight Road is staying open. It’s the larger of the two restaurants in Ross.

Emiliano’s

The South Side location closed abruptly following ICE raids at its Cranberry and Richland locations.

Grant Bar

This Millvale restaurant and bar closed after more than 90 years in business. The local establishment was known for its signature homemade pies.

Hard Rock Cafe Pittsburgh

Located in Station Square on Pittsburgh’s South Side for 23 years, it was a venue for various musical acts, including Women Who Rock, a female-founded brand dedicated to supporting women in music and raising money for Magee-Womens Research Institute. The lease expired in February .

IronRock Taphouse

After nearly six years in business, IronRock Tap House in Hempfield closed.

Hardee’s

Millvale Hardee’s — the chain’s only location in the Pittsburgh region — closed after 50 years of business.

Mary’s Vine

The wine lounge and restaurant in Rankin closed in October and is now for sale.

Murray Avenue Grill

After nearly 40 years, the establishment in Squirrel Hill is closed. Murray Avenue Grill’s last day of service was Sunday . A new restaurant is expected to fill the space.

Nakama

Once a hotspot for sushi, hibachi and cocktails, Nakama Japanese steakhouse closed on Pittsburgh’s South Side.

Oak Hill Post

Oak Hill Post, based in the city’s Brookline neighborhood, announced its closure after more than seven years in business.

Oliver’s Donuts

The shop in Lawrenceville’s Market House location has closed after three years.

Patron Mexican Grill

The East Liberty location closed and the one in Monroeville is marked “temporarily closed” on Google. The East Liberty liquor license was transferred to Hard Rock Cafe International, according to a sign on the building.

Primanti’s

The Garfield location, which opened in 2017 at the site of the former Verde restaurant, closed because the lease was ending and Primanti’s opted to not renew it.

Sullivan’s Steakhouse

The Downtown Pittsburgh high-end restaurant on the first floor of the U.S. Steel Tower closed less than four years after it opened. No reason was given for the closure.

Voodoo Brewing

Voodoo Brewing closed its North Shore and Seven Fields locations, but Voodoo Brewing in New Kensington will remain open.
