The University of Pittsburgh Wednesday froze tuition for the coming academic year at 2019-20 rates.
That means the lowest base undergraduate tuition for Pennsylvania residents at the school’s Oakland campus will remain $18,628 for the 2020-21 year. Tuition at Pitt’s three branch campuses will be held at $13,198. Graduate and out-of-state tuition will remain at 2019-20 levels, as well.
Pitt, which shuttered its campuses and moved to online education last spring, has announced plans to reopen campuses this fall with a combination of in person and online learning.
University officials said the decision to hold the line on tuition in the $2.4 billion 2020-21 budget reflects concern about the needs of students and families facing economic difficulties in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic.
“The University of Pittsburgh’s new budgets reflect optimism — that our mission is more critical than ever — while also acknowledging the unprecedented levels of uncertainty and flexibility that define life during a pandemic,” Pitt Chancellor Patrick Gallagher said.
