A Uniontown man faces criminal charges after state police say he attacked a paramedic while first responders were attempting to render aid to him.

Eric Parker, 24, had passed out at a Dollar General in North Union, Fayette County.

Parker faces a felony charge of aggravated assault, misdemeanor charges of simple assault, using or possessing drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct and summary charges of public drunkenness, harassment and criminal trespassing from the incident.

He was unable to post $10,000 bond and is currently being held at the Fayette County Prison.

Just after 12:30 p.m. on May 4, state police responded to the Dollar General on National Park for reports of an unresponsive man on the property.

Parker had passed out in the store’s breakroom while under the influence of a controlled substance, police said.

He then “physically assaulted” a paramedic from Fayette EMS who arrived at the scene to render aid, police said.

Police arrested Parker at the scene. Both Parker and the paramedic were taken to a hospital for treatment.
