A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday evening along Route 40 in Brownsville, according to TribLive news partner, WTAE.

The victim was identified as Mark Smith, 30, according to the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office.

The driver initially kept going, allegedly unsure of what she hit, according to District Attorney Michael Aubele.

About 30 minutes to an hour later, the driver’s family returned to the area where the incident happened to search the area and found Smith, Aubele said.

No charges have been filed as of Wednesday morning, but the investigation is ongoing.

Aubele said the driver is cooperating, and her phone and car have been seized as part of the investigation.
