Wigle Whiskey turns 11 with special release
Pittsburgh distillery Wigle Whiskey is celebrating its 11th birthday by releasing its longest-aged spirits to date: Single Barrel Straight Bourbon and Single Barrel Straight Rye Whiskey — aged eight years each.
The distillery will host a Bourbon vs. Rye birthday bash from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the distillery’s Strip District location.
Attendees will have the first opportunity to try and buy the 8-year-old spirits. Tickets are $75.
Kids found, man arrested after Amber Alert
Two children were found safe yesterday in Canton Township, Washington County, after police say an Ohio man stole a car with them inside.
According to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI, an Amber Alert was issued out of Zanesville, Ohio, on Thursday for a gold Chevy Suburban that was stolen with two children in the back.
Thomas Edward Pritchard Jr., 46, was taken into custody after a local resident reported spotting the vehicle about 7:45 p.m. in the area of Jefferson Avenue.
Police said Pritchard is facing a number of charges, including endangering the welfare of children and DUI.
Wrong-way crash on 279
No one was injured when a wrong-way driver collided with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 279 early Friday.
According to WPXI, police received a report of a car driving the wrong way on southbound I-279 before the crash, which occurred about 2:23 a.m. in Ohio Township near the Camp Horne Road exit.
The scene was clear by 3:30 a.m.
Concealed carry permit update event planned for Saturday
Allegheny County residents looking to apply for a new concealed carry permit or renew a current one can do so from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at an event at the Allegheny County Courthouse at 436 Grant St.
Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus has scheduled satellite events throughout the year as a convenience to people who cannot get to the courthouse in Downtown Pittsburgh during regular business hours.
Applicants must have a valid Pennsylvania ID or driver’s license, a completed application and $20 cash on hand.
