Police say fight at North Oakland gas station was bananas

A fight involving bananas and PVC pipe at a North Oakland Sunoco station on Tuesday night has a store employee facing criminal charges.

Yubaraj Budhathoki, 26, of Pittsburgh is charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault and one count of recklessly endangering another person, according to Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Cara Cruz.

Police were dispatched to the store at 195 N. Craig St. for reports of a fight after a man was throwing bananas at employees inside the store, Cruz said. They began to throw the fruit at each other and a man punched an employee, she said.

Budhathoki picked up a piece of PVC pipe from behind the counter and chased a man into the parking lot, hitting him in the head with it, Cruz said.

Medics took the man to the hospital with “serious swelling to his head,” and he was later placed in critical condition, she said.

Budhathoki was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

New Castle man sentenced for crack trafficking, firearms crimes

Sahire Walker, 45, of New Castle was sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection to crack cocaine trafficking and firearm crimes, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Pittsburgh.

U.S. District Judge David Stewart Cercone ordered Walker to six years of supervised release following his prison sentence.

Walker previously pleaded guilty to the June 4, 2020, incident with possessing a cocaine base with the intent to distribute, and possessing a firearm in a drug trafficking crime, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Walker had five prior drug trafficking convictions over the past 15 years, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
