Knife wielding man shot by state police

A knife-wielding man was shot by Pennsylvania State Police responding to a domestic conflict at a Georges Township home on Wednesday morning, officials said.

State police in Uniontown said the incident, at 233 Amend Road in Georges Township, Fayette County, happened as Thomas Edward Conroy, 43, of Georges Township, exited the residence while holding a knife, which caused troopers to discharge their firearms. Conroy was struck in the stomach and transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., in stable condition.

Police told Tribune-Review news partner WPXI that Conroy had reportedly been having an argument with his mother.

Police said they plan to charge Conroy with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and simple assault.

Vehicle hits utility pole in Harrison

Harrison police said a vehicle stuck a utility pole and went over an embankment Thursday morning along Route 908, just off Exit 16 of Route 28 in Natrona Heights.

The crash prompted emergency crews to block the roadway near the Cochran auto dealership.

There were no reports of any injures, although wires were down and police said repairs could take hours.

For commuters, Saxonburg Road is a possible alternative route between Freeport and Route 908/Bakerstown Road.
