Three people were injured when a van fleeing from police crashed into a car in Beaver Falls on Wednesday night, according to state police.

Police say John Allen, 44, of Beaver Falls fled at a high rate of speed when a state trooper on patrol along Eighth Avenue in the city tried to pull him over for a traffic violation.

Investigators said Allen also had several warrants for his arrest for parole violations.

Allen blew through two stop signs before the Dodge Caravan he was driving crashed into a Honda Civic with two people inside at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and 37th Street, police said.

The male driver of the Honda suffered a laceration to the leg and his female passenger had head and chest injuries. The injuries are not life-threatening.

Police say Allen was able to crawl out of the van’s driver-side window and resisted arrest when troopers tried to handcuff him, according to authorities.

Allen was transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh’s Uptown section for treatment of head and spinal cord injuries he suffered in the wreck.

A trooper was treated at Heritage Valley Beaver Hospital after being exposed to Allen’s blood.
