Oakmont police are warning residents about phone scammers claiming to be from the department or the FBI seeking personal information.
Chief Michael Ford said the caller is attempting to obtain Social Security numbers and other personal financial information as part of an “investigation.”
At least one resident alerted the borough of such calls.
Borough Manager Scot Fodi said April 15 he was unaware of anyone who actually supplied their information to the scammers.
Ford reminded residents no one from his police force, or the FBI, would contact anyone by phone to request personal information like a bank account number.
Any resident who received a call like that should hang up and call 911.
