Allegheny County Police have filed charges against a man they said brought a loaded handgun into the Allegheny County Jail on Saturday.

According to county police, a Swissvale officer transported Dayvonne Jackson, 21, to the jail around 9:40 a.m. Jackson had been arrested for defiant trespass in Braddock Hills.

While Jackson was being processed, a corrections officer at the jail saw a 9 mm round fall to the floor. Officers attempted to secure Jackson when he reached toward his waistband and started fighting with officers, county police said in a news release.

Officers subdued Jackson and recovered a loaded handgun with an altered serial number, officials said.

One corrections officer was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries and was released.

County police initiated an investigation.

Jackson is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, resisting arrest and other charges. He is being held at the Allegheny County Jail pending preliminary arraignment.
