On a cool Christmas morning, Holy Family Parish, in the eastern suburbs of Plum, Verona, Oakmont and Penn Hills, continued its tradition of celebrating Jesus’ birth by sharing brunch with about 170 guests at St. Joseph Church Hall in Verona and Our Lady of Joy Church Hall in Plum.
The parish also delivered 60 meals as a way to ensure no one would be alone on Christmas and that those who are homebound would receive a Christmas meal.
More than 100 volunteers of the parish and other churches were able to enjoy a meal with the guests who were served.
In addition to sausage, ham, quiche, scrambled eggs, potatoes, fruit and rolls, guests also enjoyed Oakmont Bakery pastries and 121 dozen cookies made by the bakers in the parish’s cookie ministry.
Candy, ornaments, gift certificates and toys were given as gifts and prizes.
Holy Family Parish wished to thank everyone who supported the Christmas brunches with donations of certificates, candy, pastries, ornaments and cookies. A special thanks went out to volunteers who donated their time.
After all guests were served, the remaining food was shared with the Second Harvest Community Food Bank in Sharpsburg and the Free Store in Braddock.
