The newly-constructed Shaler Street Bridge over Route 19 will be restricted to a single-lane next week, PennDOT announced Thursday.

Crews from Swank Construction Company LLC will apply protective concrete coating to the bridge deck, sidewalks and parapets. The restrictions will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday of next week.

The bridge has been subject to several improvements in the last several months. The work is part of a $14.55 million project that also includes concrete reconstruction of Route 19, median barrier replacement, sign structure replacement, ramp improvements and lengthening the Wabash Street deceleration ramp, PennDOT said.

PennDOT reconstructed the bridge in November, using a new process with a self-propelled modular transporter. The bridge was closed again later that month for road maintenance, and again in December to install a new sanitary sewer.
