The Armstrong Tunnels in Pittsburgh’s Uptown neighborhood will close Tuesday morning for a short period of time after rush hour, Allegheny County officials said.

Pavement painting inside of and outside of the tunnels will begin at 9 a.m., requiring closure of both tunnels starting with the outbound tunnel. Each tunnel will be shut down for about one hour and police will be stationed at each end of the tunnel to direct traffic.

Drivers needing to get around the closures can take Forbes Avenue, to Ross Avenue, to Second Avenue when the outbound section tunnel is closed, and the reverse route when the inbound tunnel is closed.

The work is part of an ongoing $21 million rehabilitation project.
