Bulldog Pub in Morningside announced that the restaurant is closing until further notice after an employee on Tuesday tested positive for covid-19.

The employee showed no symptoms, according to Jesse DiRenzo, owner and general manager of Bulldog Pub.

“She had no symptoms whatsoever, but last week, I had asked my staff to just get tested just to be safe,” DiRenzo said, explaining that the recent spike in local cases made them extra cautious.

The employee was tested on Friday and received a positive result on Tuesday. She had not been at work since Friday.

Bulldog Pub was only open for take-out and delivery. DiRenzo said he believes that means the chances of his employee spreading the virus to customers was low.

In a social media announcement, the restaurant said they won’t reopen until all of their employees test negative for the virus and the facility has been professionally sanitized. The staff will also quarantine as they await test results.

Bulldog Pub likely won’t reopen in any capacity for at least 10 to 14 days, DiRenzo said.

“Until I feel confident I can provide safe service, I wouldn’t even fathom coming back,” DiRenzo said. “As long as we can do our part and help people stay safe, that’s the priority.”

“Thank you all for your support during this whole mess,” the Facebook post reads. “We love you and it meant the world to us. Now we must be responsible and shut down until we can operate safely once again. #LoveYinz.”

The post encouraged customers to be safe, wash their hands, wear a mask, and be responsible.
