Prospect Road in Baldwin Borough reopened to traffic Thursday following a landslide that shut down the South Hills thoroughfare earlier this week, officials said.
A landslide during Tuesday’s severe weather conditions prompted Allegheny County Department of Public Works crews to close Prospect Road between Beryl Drive and Streets Run Road.
Crews have been clearing debris from the road and working on installing a barrier the past two days, public works officials said.
As of Thursday night, the road remains reduced to a single lane near the damaged area. A traffic signal is directing drivers in both directions at the point where the road becomes one lane.
Officials did not provide a time estimate for repairs or how long the road will be reduced to a single lane.
Municipalities around Western Pennsylvania have been plagued by hundreds of landslides in the past year amid record-setting precipitation. So far, 2019 is on pace to match last year’s rainfall total.
Officials are bracing for more landslides and flooding damage this spring.
