The only August Wilson play in his Pittsburgh Cycle that isn’t set in Pittsburgh will begin filming in Pittsburgh next month and background actors are needed.

Mosser Casting is looking for people of all ages to appear as extras during filming for Netflix’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”

An open casting call will take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Double Tree Hotel’s Monongahela Room at 1 Bigelow Square in Pittsburgh. Attendees will have their photos taken and be added to a database of talent under consideration for background roles in the film.

No experience is necessary.

Oscar- and Tony-winning actor Denzel Washington is producing the television adaptation of “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” It tells the story of black recording artists, including real-life jazz singer Ma Rainey, who were exploited by white producers. The title is from a song of the same name by Ma Rainey that refers to the “Black Bottom Dance.”
