Allegheny County Parks will host a series of science exploration programs for kids 10 and older in North Park. The organization also is offering summer yoga classes and ongoing, individualized bike-riding instruction.

The Outside the Box Labs include:

• Rockets and Gravity, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday. Participants will design, build and launch several different types of rockets in an attempt to escape the gravity well of Earth.

Fee is $45 for county residents, $56 for others. Registration deadline is Thursday.

• Arrowhead Making, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. June 27. Participants will learn how to make stone age-style arrowheads from volcanic obsidian, glass and flint, the way ancient Native Americans did it.

Fee is $45 for county residents, $56 for others. Registration deadline is June 25.

• Explosion/Science, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. July 11. Participants will learn why and how explosions occur including physics, chemistry, deflagration, detonation, pressure wave and all the stuff kids wonder about. Participants will get to see and set off several different types of small, controlled explosions.

Fee is $35 for county residents, $44 for others. Registration deadline is July 9.

A free introductory yoga session is planned for 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Deer Lakes Park. Instruction will cover yogic breathing techniques, and gentle yoga postures for stretching and strengthening the body.

Registered participants must bring a mat and wear a face covering, and each participant will be 6 feet apart.

More yoga sessions will follow at various park locations. Fees apply.

Cycling instruction with Learn3Ride is being offered at Deer Lakes, North Park, South Park, Settlers Cabin, Round Hill and White Oak parks.

Sessions are scheduled at various times and are open to ages 5 and up; no experience is necessary. Participants must have a well-fitted bike helmet and be wearing closed-toe shoes, no sandals or Crocs. Bicycles will be made available for students up to 10 or 100 pounds. Older students must bring their own bikes.
