A Penn Hills High School student stabbed a classmate with a pair of scissors on Thursday, officials said.
Superintendent Nancy Hines said two students got into an argument inside a classroom shortly before afternoon dismissal.
One of the students grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed the other in the hand, Hines said.
The school nurse and Penn Hills EMS treated the injured student, who was then taken to a local hospital for an evaluation. The injuries are reported to be non-life threatening.
The district sent out a message to families and staff about the incident.
The statement reads, in part, that the district is working collaboratively with the police department to investigate the situation and “the student who caused the injury is being addressed in accordance with District policy and police protocol.”
Hines declined to give the genders of the students involved or what class they were in, citing student confidentiality.
Penn Hills Police Chief Ronald Como was unavailable for comment on Thursday afternoon.
